Way of the Gods - Via degli Dei
7 day hike from Bologna to Florence (130 km)
Description

Adonis, the god of beauty, Venus, the goddess of love, Jupiter, the father of all gods, Lua, the goddess of atonement.

Monte Adone, Monte Venere, Monzuno and Monte Luario: four areas of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines with clear traces of flourishing Roman culture that identified them as the ideal place for the construction of the Via Flaminia Militare, an important link between Bologna and Florence, two nerve centres already at the time of the Roman Empire.

Today this old Italian road has become Via degli Dei, a 130 km stretch from Piazza Maggiore in Bologna to Piazza della Signoria in Florence, divided into 3-7 stages, depending on the time and possibilities, which can be covered on foot or by mountain bike. The Via degli Dei winds its way from the hills of Bologna to the green slopes of Mugello, crossing forgotten places and preserving small treasures of the Apennines, witnesses of an eventful history.

Walking along the Via degli Dei means a journey through the history of religion with its abbeys and monasteries, a journey into ancient times with the remains of the Via Flaminia Militare or the paths of the Pliocene fortification wall, to the beginning of modern times with its Medici villas, to the present day, through the silence of the Passo della Futa and the warm areas of the Gothic line of the Second World War, in the midst of unspoilt nature of natural oases for the protection of flora and fauna, between legends and curiosities.

The Via degli Dei is a rich and not particularly difficult itinerary, suitable for everyone, whose stages can be adapted to the wishes and abilities of the hiker.
